Dermatology

Proper skin care strengthens your pet's immunity and overall well-being.

It’s very common for cats and dogs to have skin problems. In fact, nearly 4 in 10 consultations at our clinic are for skin-related issues. If you notice your pet licking or scratching themselves excessively, or if you notice anything abnormal about their skin, it’s important to see your veterinarian, who will identify the source of the problem and recommend an appropriate treatment plan.

What are the main symptoms of dermatological problems?

Skin conditions can present differently depending on the animal, although there are some obvious symptoms that warrant a trip to the vet, such as:

  • Abnormal body odours
  • Excessive hair loss
  • Excessive licking
  • Severe, persistent itching
  • Red or scabby patches
  • Persistent dandruff
  • Bald spots
  • Coat that is less full or silky than usual
  • Etc.

What are the main causes of dermatological issues in pets?

Skin conditions can be caused by many things such as bacteria, fungi, and parasites. Many pets also have skin allergies, which can be triggered by stings or bites from parasites, by certain foods, or even by environmental allergens such as pollen and dust mites.
