Spaying and Neutering

Surgical sterilization has several benefits for pets. Our state-of-the-art equipment allows us to perform these procedures using surgical lasers, which leave a smaller scar, reduce the amount of postoperative pain, and shorten the recovery period.

At what age should a pet be spayed or neutered?

For kittens, we usually recommend waiting until they have had all their vaccines and are at least 5 months old. An adult cat can be sterilized at any age.

For puppies, the procedure is usually done around 6 months. However, this can vary depending on the animal’s breed, size and sex.

During your first visit to the veterinarian with your new pet, the vet will discuss sterilization with you and advise you on the best time to do it for your pet.

What are the benefits of sterilization?

  • It curbs certain unwanted behaviours :
Unsterilized females will go into heat, and experience vaginal bleeding and behavioural changes. For example, cats in heat meow loudly at all times of the day and night. Unsterilized males will tend to be more territorial. Many of them will want to mark their territory in the house by doing what’s known as spraying.
  • It reduces the risk of developing certain diseases :
Spaying and neutering significantly reduce the risk of developing tumours in the reproductive organs, as well as certain diseases and infections.
  • It helps control the pet population:
Each day in Québec, animals are euthanized because they have been abandoned and have not found a family to adopt them.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about spaying and neutering. Our team is standing by to guide you.
