At Hôpital vétérinaire LaSalle, we have a digital X-ray machine and an ultrasound machine that allow us to perform complete examinations of your pet without you having to visit another clinic.
A radiograph is an image produced using X-rays. It provides a two-dimensional picture of the animal’s bones, as well as of some organs. This technology can be used to diagnose fractures, as well as assess the condition and size of the lungs, liver, kidneys, bladder and heart. With a digital X-ray machine, the images can be read on a computer instead of having to print them on special paper. This technique significantly cuts down on the wait time for results, not to mention the time spent on the X-ray table.
Ultrasound uses sound waves to obtain moving images of internal organs and major arteries. Because the ultrasound image is in motion, we can see how the organs are functioning and the blood flows through the veins and arteries. Among other things, ultrasound is used to observe a fetus and to check an animal’s heartbeat and muscle contractions.
X-rays and ultrasound are often used together to confirm a diagnosis of injury or disease.
